Minnesota Model
Our model is based on three major concepts: Addiction is a chronic, progressive and multifaceted pathological state.
It is chronic because we understand it has no definitive cure. The answer is Rehab.
In the form of continuing care
When we say it has no known cure what we mean is that an addict cannot and will never be able to use drugs safely. The term chronic is focused on the relationship addict-drug-loss of control.
It is progressive in the sense that a drug user gradually loses his health, his clarity of thought, his sound judgment, as well as his capacity for free thinking and reasoning which make him unable to choose his wellbeing. In other words, he/she is on the path leading to self destruction.
It is multifaceted, since it impairs the person physically, mentally and spiritually resulting in death.
